Course Details

You have an outline for the next great chick lit novel. You have a start on your draft, but you don't know what to do next. You need guidance. You need deadlines. You need someone to tell you if you're even on the right track. How can you figure out if you've got something good before you sit down to write 300 pages, and more importantly, how can you stop procrastinating?

Join a small group of fellow writers in your pursuit of a polished complete first draft under the guidance of a published novelist. In this rigorous 8 week workshop, you will read and comment on the writing of your fellow students and also get your own work critiqued. In so doing, you'll learn the fine points of craft, when to use an outline, when to leave well enough alone, and how to turn your pages into a best-seller. Be prepared to live the life of a working novelist -- reading selections and turning out 5-10 pages of your book each week -- and then have the opportunity to speak with an agent or editor about how to sell your novel.

Prerequisite for this class:
Students should have about 50 pages of a draft already completed.

By the end of class, you will have:
Approximately 100 pages of your book completed.

Admission requirements:
Please submit a letter of interest (including a brief work history) and a fiction writing sample (less than 1,000 words).

Testimonials

Lynda is a fabulous instructor! She's encouraging and open minded and helps facilitate good chemistry between the students. Taking her class was almost like enrolling in a mini MFA program. It helped my writing enormously and has really enabled me to move my novel forward. -- Jaime Cunningham

"I couldn't wait to come to Lynda's class each week! Her advice was clear and practical, her interest in our work genuine, and she kept the class interesting and fun without sacrificing focus. I came to the class with only a vague notion for novel, and now have fifty solid pages. I really couldn't have wished for a better instructor or a better class!" -- Bisanne Masoud

"Lynda was a pure delight. It was like having Carrie Bradshaw as an instructor minus any sense of pretention or ditziness. She was extremely encouraging and balanced the class well between advice, workshopping and in-class writing." -- Kathleen Lucadamo

"I've tried to start writing a novel for the past several years, but my attempts constantly fell flat. Now that I've taken Lynda's class, I am seventy pages into my novel after eight weeks and really believe I can finish it." -- Jessica Rosevear
