What does it take to get your byline into one of the thousands of consumer magazines being published today? While it's not as hard as you might think, breaking into the glossies does require specific knowledge about how the magazine world works, and an understanding of the strategies that will get you published. This seminar will show you how to penetrate the world of the glossies, whether you're coming from a background in trade writing or are still just dreaming of seeing your name in print.

In order to really make it work, a professional freelancer needs to be highly disciplined. In this seminar, we will discuss the challenges and triumphs freelancers face, the lessons to be learned, and where the freelance career is headed.

In this seminar, you will learn:

  • How to break into the business
  • How to form a pitch editors will go for
  • How to market yourself as a freelancer, and make yourself in-demand
  • How to maintain the best relationships with editors and become part of someone's freelancer "stable"
  • How to gather a list of contacts and use them to your best advantage
  • What you need to consider to figure out if this is the life for you
