Last Night at the Bruce Concert...You've already heard Rahm Emanuel and David Axelrod were in the audience last night at the Verizon Center... But did you know there was some DC journo representation on stage with the E Street Band?? Bruce Springsteen welcomed drummer Max Weinberg's daughter Ali Weinberg to the stage on the accordion. Weinberg works in the DC bureau of NBC News, in the political unit with director and White House correspondent Chuck Todd. When National Journal announced 3121, their social networking site for members of Congress and staffers, many questioned whether membership to the site was a violation of House and Senate rules. But since its launch and cocktail party, little more has been said publicly...until now. In Roll Call's "Heard on the Hill" column, Emily Heil and Elizabeth Brotherton report that a recent e-mail from a key aide was sent to Senate staffers warning that "joining the networking site, whose name comes from the Capitol switchboard's phone extension, might result in a breach of Senate rules." The email cautioned that officials had yet to rule if joining 3121 was okay and that participation could be a security risk. The Rules Committee and the Office of Legal Counsel are expected to review the site and advise if it's in compliance with Senate rules. At the launch party on September 17th, we were told that the collaboration tool/directory houses roughly 9,000 profiles and 500 were claimed by the end of day one.
Dinner with Deepak ChopraMost Washingtonians and journos use Twitter to stay connected or for a little self-promotion. Deepak Chopra is also an avid Twitter-er, but much different than most of the tweets FBDC follows. The author and mind-body medicine guru tweets his daily intentions and his hundreds of thousands of followers benefit from messages like this morning's "to transform the world transform yourself." At a dinner at Teatro Goldoni last night, hosted by Janet Donovan and Christine Warnke, FBDC asked Chopra if there's anyone in DC he's following on Twitter-- for now, just President Obama. Chopra, accompanied by his wife Rita, signed copies of his book "Reinventing the Body, Resurrecting the Soul: How To Create a New You." Guests included: Sally Quinn and Ben Bradlee, WaPo's Jonathan Capehart, Washington Life's Vicki Bagley, Democratic strategist Karen Finney, Kevin Chaffee, The Georgetowner's Beth Solomon, Pamela's Punch's Pamela Sorensen, Politico's Kiki Ryan, TWT's Stephanie Green and Liz Glover, US News and World Report's Washington Whispers' Jessica Rettig, the Examiner's Nikki Schwab and the National Endowment of the Arts' Jamie Bennett. Benton Ives PromotedBenton Ives has been promoted to an editing position at CQ. Though it's not being advertised that way, it sounds like it was Brian Nutting's job. FishbowlDC obtained John Dineen's memo announcing Ives' promotion: Folks - I am very pleased to announce that Benton Ives will be joining our team of legislative action editors later this month. Most recently, Benton has demonstrated his exceptional talents as a writer and reporter through his coverage of the banking and financial services beat for CQ. This is Benton's second tour of duty here: He returned in 2007, after spending more than a year covering finance for the Dow Jones Newswire. During an earlier four-year stint at CQ, Benton worked as a committees and floor votes reporter - experiences that no doubt will come in handy as an editor for our action team - and reported for CQ Homeland Security. Please join me in congratulating Benton on his promotion. |
